The Two Soups Challenge - Step 5: Get Someone Else Involved

"Therefore encourage one another and build each another up, just as in fact you are doing"
1 Thessalonians 5v11

Now that you've got a friend, are regularly doing something together, talking about God and showing love with food it's time to get someone else in on the action, and this is a great time to invite someone who isn't a Christian to join you. As with step 2 this doesn't have to be the most difficult person in the world. It can be someone you already get on with and, you know, like even.

By doing steps 1-4 you've set up a basis that is a good witness both in words and deeds. Your little weekly get together is the Christian life, it shows the work of Jesus in you, the difference it makes, the family that's been made, all when Jesus died and rose again. It encourages the believer to keep going, giving a rallying cry to those feeling weak and who are flagging in the race and it gives those not yet in the church a birds eye view of what living for Jesus really looks like.

Bringing Christians and non Christian together in the same place at the same time and getting them to have a conversation is outreach at it's most basic. It spreads the load which we all feel when we have a non Christian family member or friend who we desperately want to know the Lord but with whom we've run out of things to say, ways to explain it or bible verses to quote. Reaching our non believing loved ones was never meant to be a lone ranger task. As if they can't 'meet the family' until they've 'said the prayer'. No, it takes many people speaking many times into the life of someone. So bring them in.

And that's it.

This is what it means to do hospitality, have better community.

Whenever you hear someone talk about it, rant about it, blog about it, this is all they are doing, just steps 1-5. All you do now is keep doing it, and if you're feeling especially brave, repeat the process again with some other friend and do this kind of thing on 2 days a week and not just 1. But for now, well done and congratulations! You are now one of those crazy hospitality, better community focused Christians, and that makes us all Ginger this week...go...enjoy!
